If you see this picture, you will hungry and want to eat. Sour fruit is very popular in Cambodia, especially for girls and ladies. Sour fruit include young mango, young tamarind, jujube, pineapple, wild cherry, and other sour fruit. All of them are sold by Cambodian along street in small store and local market. Khmer sour fruit are eaten with chili salt that mix salt, sugar, seasoning, chili, garlic, dried shrimp. Chili salt taste is so spicy and Cambodian always call hot spicy. There are many kind of chili salt such as red chili salt, green chili salt, chili salt with shrimp, chili salt with garlic, chili salt with shrimp paste, and beside chili salt Khmer people also eat sour fruit with Prahok (they mix fish together and contain in jar for one month or long time to have stink smell, use for Khmer food like Kor Ko, Sour Soup...) and Shrimp Paste ( It is kind of Prahok, but make from small shrimp and recipe is the same Prahok). At the sour fruit store, they also have salt that not too spicy for people who don't like spicy taste or children, so they can eat sour fruit with yummy taste too. Most of Cambodian like spicy taste when they eat sour fruit because it is so delicious. Previously, sour fruit seller don't have any kinds of sauce for sour fruit, they just mix salt, sugar, seasoning, and chili for make sauce to eat with sour fruit, but now almost all of them know how to make yummy sauce for sour fruit, they add dried shrimp or garlic to mix salt, some mix garlic, kaffir lime leaf, shrimp past, different color of chili, different taste of chili salt, they do all of this to make different tastes of chili salt and customer can choose sauce that they like.
If you come to Cambodia, please don't forget try sour fruit. Remember: do not eat too much, if your stomach have problem!!!
